SHOP CASE KNIVESBuilt for those who demand precision and portability, the AAPCO Black Hard Arkansas Pocket Stone delivers high-performance edge refinement in a compact format. Measuring 3 inches long by 1 inch wide and ¼ inch thick, this ultra-fine sharpening stone is crafted from dense Black Hard Arkansas novaculite—a rare grade known for its grit equivalent of around 2000. It’s the stone of choice when you’re looking to finish a blade to a razor-sharp, mirror-polished edge.
As the final step in the sharpening process, the Black Hard Arkansas stone excels at honing and polishing blades rather than shaping or repairing them. Its natural microcrystalline structure offers a subtle tactile feedback that expert sharpeners appreciate, providing precision control with each pass of the blade. Ideal for use on knives, straight razors, carving tools, or fine instruments, this stone produces professional-level results in a truly pocket-sized format.
The included leather pouch adds protection, portability, and style. Whether stored in your glove box, field kit, or tool roll, the pouch shields the stone from damage and keeps grit off your gear. It’s also easy to deploy when you're on the job or out in the field and need a quick edge tune-up.
Each stone is quarried from the Ouachita Mountains in Arkansas, cut to size, lapped flat, and hand-inspected to ensure a smooth, consistent honing surface. Its deep gray to near-black tone—sometimes with a subtle translucence—adds a visual nod to the stone’s natural origin and refined character.
This pocket stone is best used with a few drops of honing oil or water to minimize friction, carry away swarf, and maintain sharpening performance over time. With minimal maintenance and maximum reliability, it’s an indispensable tool for anyone serious about blade care. Check out our large sharpening department at SMKW!
