SHOP CASE KNIVESThe Half Face Custom Kwaiken Folder is a striking blend of traditional blade heritage, premium materials, and modern American craftsmanship. Built by Half Face Blades, the U.S. company founded by former Navy SEAL Andrew Arrabito, this folder reflects the brand’s commitment to producing knives that combine real-world performance with exceptional design. With its sleek profile, high-end steel, and custom handle construction, the Kwaiken stands out as both a capable cutting tool and a statement piece.
The Kwaiken pattern traces its roots to traditional Japanese blades once carried by samurai as discreet backup weapons. Over time, modern knife makers adopted the design because of its clean lines, streamlined profile, and strong piercing capability. The Half Face interpretation stays true to that heritage while incorporating modern materials and precision construction. The blade features a long, straight spine that tapers to a fine, aggressive tip, providing excellent control for precision cuts and efficient slicing.
The 3.2 inch blade is crafted from CPM S45VN stainless steel, one of the most respected premium steels used in high-end knives today. Known for its excellent edge retention, corrosion resistance, and toughness, S45VN delivers dependable cutting performance in demanding situations. With a blade thickness of .14 inches, the knife provides solid durability while maintaining the slicing efficiency that the Kwaiken profile is known for.
This blade is finished with a black nitride coating, a treatment that enhances corrosion resistance and surface hardness while giving the blade a deep, non-reflective black appearance. The coating also reduces glare and improves long-term durability during extended use.
The handle is where this custom Kwaiken truly shines. One of its standout features is the use of Desert Ironwood, one of the most prized natural handle materials in knife making. Sourced from the Southwestern United States and northern Mexico, Desert Ironwood is exceptionally dense, naturally stable, and highly resistant to moisture. Its rich brown color and dramatic grain patterns ensure that each knife carries its own unique character.
Adding even more visual appeal is a black and gold web Tru-Stone inlay. Tru-Stone is a composite made from natural stone and resin, and the gold web pattern creates striking metallic lines running through the dark surface. The result is a bold, eye-catching contrast that gives the knife a distinctive custom look.
The base frame features an anodized green handle that adds another layer of color while increasing corrosion resistance. A textured grip pattern enhances traction, helping the knife remain secure in your hand during use. At just 3.6 ounces with an overall open length of 8.1 inches, the knife offers an ideal balance of lightweight carry and solid cutting performance.
