SHOP CASE KNIVESThe Half Face Blades Kwaiken Folder is a sleek, precision-built folding knife that blends modern engineering with a blade profile rooted in tradition. It’s part of the lineup from Half Face Blades, the American knife company founded by former Navy SEAL Andrew Arrabito. Known for producing high-performance tactical and outdoor knives using premium materials and American manufacturing, Half Face Blades builds tools that emphasize reliability, durability, and clean functional design.
This Kwaiken Folder carries the unmistakable influence of the traditional Japanese kwaiken blade, a discreet knife historically carried by samurai as a secondary weapon. Modern interpretations have become popular for their minimalist profile and excellent piercing ability. The Half Face version maintains the streamlined silhouette with a long, straight spine and a precise, aggressive tip that excels at controlled cutting tasks while remaining practical for everyday carry.
The knife measures approximately 8.1 inches overall when open and 4.7 inches closed, with a blade length of about 3.2 inches and a .14-inch blade thickness. Weighing around 3.6 ounces, it offers a comfortable balance between strength and portability, making it well suited for everyday carry without sacrificing durability.
The blade is crafted from CPM S45VN stainless steel, a premium American powder metallurgy steel widely used in high-end knives. Heat treated to 58–60 HRC, S45VN provides excellent edge retention, strong corrosion resistance, and dependable toughness. This combination allows the blade to maintain sharpness through extended use while still holding up to demanding cutting tasks.
The blade is finished with a black nitride coating, a treatment that enhances surface hardness and corrosion resistance while giving the blade a deep, non-reflective black appearance. The coating complements the knife’s tactical aesthetic while also helping protect the steel during daily use.
One of the standout features of this knife is its monolithic frame construction. The handle is machined from a single piece of 7075‑T6 aluminum, creating an integral handle structure that delivers exceptional strength and precision. This aerospace-grade aluminum is known for its impressive strength-to-weight ratio and durability, making it a strong choice for a hard-use folding knife.
The handle features a Type III hard coat anodized black finish, adding additional surface hardness and wear resistance while maintaining a clean tactical appearance. A textured grip pattern is incorporated into the handle to improve traction and control, ensuring the knife remains secure in hand during cutting tasks.
The knife utilizes an integral button lock mechanism, providing smooth operation and secure lockup while maintaining a streamlined design. This system allows for easy blade deployment and closure while keeping the mechanism protected within the handle structure.
For carry, the Kwaiken Folder includes a hand-formed 6AL-4V Grade 5 titanium deep carry pocket clip using the Spyderco standard three-hole pattern. The clip allows the knife to sit low in the pocket for discreet carry while remaining easy to access.
