The TOPS Lil Chete Fixed Knife delivers serious chopping power in a more compact, carry-friendly package. Designed by Leo Espinoza, this knife was created to answer the only real criticism of the original El Chete—size and weight—while preserving the aggressive cutting performance that made it legendary. Built for bushcrafters, campers, overlanders, and hunters, the Lil Chete feels purpose-driven the moment it’s in your hand. It’s compact enough to carry deeper into the field, yet powerful enough to make quick work of demanding tasks.
At the core of the Lil Chete is an 8.38-inch cleaver-style blade made from full quarter-inch-thick 1095 high carbon steel, heat treated to RC 56–58. That thickness adds mass and momentum where it counts, allowing each swing to bite hard into wood. Chopping, splitting, clearing brush, and fire prep all become faster and more efficient, without the fatigue that often comes with oversized blades. The wide blade and high grind work together to split cleanly and control material, giving you confidence during heavy cuts.
The blade is finished with a tan powder coat that helps protect the steel and reduce glare in the field. Like all 1095 carbon steel blades, it’s built for toughness and easy maintenance, making it a reliable choice for extended outdoor use. A quick wipe-down and light oiling after use will keep it performing trip after trip.
The green canvas Micarta handle is long, well-contoured, and designed to support multiple grip positions. Whether you’re choking up for controlled work or swinging hard for chopping, the handle stays comfortable and secure, even in wet conditions. The balanced weight of the knife keeps control high while helping reduce fatigue during extended sessions of fire prep or trail clearing.
Carry is handled by a black Kydex sheath paired with a leather dangler, allowing the Lil Chete to ride comfortably on your belt or pack. At 21.3 ounces for the knife and 29.1 ounces with the sheath, it strikes a smart balance between portability and authority.
Born from the success of the El Chete and refined for greater mobility, the TOPS Lil Chete proves that one size doesn’t fit all. Available at SMKW, it’s compact, aggressive, and built to work hard when conditions demand it.
