SHOP CASE KNIVESThe Council Tool 3.5 lb. Jersey Axe with 36" Curved Handle is a classic, full-sized felling axe built for serious cutting and splitting tasks. Featuring the time-tested “Baltimore Jersey” pattern, this axe head includes flared lugs or ears that increase the contact area with the handle, offering improved durability and stability under heavy use. With roots in traditional Kentucky and North Carolina designs, the Jersey pattern stands as one of the most reliable shapes for general-purpose chopping.
The head is drop-forged from premium tool steel and finished with a coat of boiled linseed oil over the raw forged surface, preserving the metal while allowing the natural beauty of the steel to show through. Each head is hand-sharpened with a tapered bit that’s ideal for both cutting and splitting. Council Tool exceeds ANSI requirements by tempering the bit to a hardness of Rc 48–55, extending 1-1/4 inches from the edge to ensure long-lasting sharpness without brittleness. The poll and eye walls remain in the as-forged condition to maintain structural integrity.
The 36-inch handle is made from high-quality American hickory, selected for strength, grain orientation, and shock absorption. It features a traditional curved shape for balance and control, and it's dried to below 10% moisture content to prevent loosening over time. The head is hydraulically seated and secured with a hardwood wedge and steel wedge in a time-proven double wedge system. Approximately 1/4 inch of the handle is removed during assembly to ensure a tight fit that won’t shake loose under strain. The eye is internally tapered, forming a mechanical bond that strengthens with use.
Built with practicality, durability, and American pride, this axe is equally suited to hard work in the field or as a dependable tool for homestead and farm use. Whether you're felling, bucking, or splitting, the Council Tool Jersey Axe is ready to deliver performance you can count on, backed by over a century of American manufacturing tradition.
