The Hornady Critical Defense Lite 9mm Handgun Ammuniton 25 Rounds Brass Centerfire 100 Grain FTX Pink Tip is a specialized centerfire handgun cartridge engineered specifically for personal protection, concealed carry, and lightweight subcompact pistol platforms. A primary friction point when shooting micro-frame 9mm handguns is severe recoil impulse, which delays sight re-acquisition and slows down critical follow-up shots. Hornady resolves these handling limitations by pairing its premium brass cases with a lightweight 100-grain FTX projectile and a low-recoil propellant charge, delivering controllable muzzle flip, rapid sight recovery, and reliable terminal expansion through heavy clothing.
The primary technical advantage centers on Hornady’s 100-grain FTX (Flex Tip® eXpanding) projectile design, featuring a distinctive pink polymer insert. Upon impact, the soft polymer tip actively resists clogging when passing through heavy clothing or thick winter fabrics—a common point of failure for traditional hollow points—and drives backward into the cavity to trigger instantaneous, reliable hydraulic expansion. The internal architecture utilizes a high-concentricity lead core and a mechanically locked jacket to prevent jacket-core separation, ensuring maximum energy transfer within defensive penetration depths.
Launching its 100-grain projectile at a factory-rated 1,125 FPS muzzle velocity, this Critical Defense Lite loading generates 281 ft-lbs of muzzle energy while significantly reducing felt recoil compared to standard 115-grain or 124-grain defensive loads. Assembled using premium brass cases, clean-burning low-flash propellants to preserve night vision, and non-corrosive Boxer primers, the cartridge guarantees uniform chamber pressure curves and dependable cycling across compact semi-automatic pistols. It serves as an ideal choice for everyday carry, subcompact concealed handguns, and recoil-sensitive shooters.
Key Benefits:
- FTX Flex Tip Projectile: Pink polymer tip prevents cavity clogging through heavy fabric to ensure dependable, hydraulic expansion.
- Reduced-Recoil Impulse: 100-grain bullet mass minimizes muzzle flip for faster sight re-acquisition and tighter follow-up groups.
- Low-Flash Propellant: Clean-burning powder formulation preserves low-light vision during night or indoor defensive encounters.
- Precision Reloadable Brass: Manufactured to exact tolerances with controlled crimping for smooth feeding and reliable extraction.
