The Gahagan Customs Mountain Trout is a compact, purpose-built bird and trout knife designed for hunters, anglers, and outdoorsmen who appreciate a lightweight tool that can handle detailed cutting work. Its slim profile and upturned blade make it especially well suited for processing small game, birds, and fish, while its versatile design gives it plenty of usefulness beyond the field. Small enough for everyday carry yet purpose-built for outdoor tasks, the Mountain Trout is a practical companion wherever your adventures take you.
The 2.875-inch blade is made from AEB-L stainless steel and measures just .110 inches thick. AEB-L is known for its excellent edge performance, toughness, and corrosion resistance, making it a natural choice for a knife that may see regular exposure to moisture while processing game and fish. The upturned blade provides a useful cutting profile for detailed work, giving you the control needed when precision matters. A tumbled finish adds a rugged appearance while complementing the knife’s practical outdoor character.
The feathered black G-10 handle gives the Mountain Trout a distinctive look while providing a secure grip in hand. Its textured construction helps maintain control during detailed cutting tasks, while the slim design keeps the knife comfortable to carry. At only 2.94 ounces, the Mountain Trout is exceptionally lightweight, making it an easy addition to a hunting pack, fishing gear, or everyday carry setup. With an overall length of 7.25 inches, it offers useful cutting capability without becoming bulky.
A black retention sheath is included to protect the blade and keep the knife secure when it’s not in use. Made in the USA and designed by Kyle Gahagan, the Mountain Trout reflects the practical craftsmanship and outdoor experience behind Gahagan Customs.
Kyle Gahagan’s passion for knifemaking began at the age of 10 while visiting his grandparents in Walterboro, South Carolina. After joining the Army at 20, Kyle served with the 1st Ranger Battalion and completed two tours in Afghanistan and two in Iraq. Following his military service, Kyle and his wife, Dana, moved to North Carolina, where he renewed his passion for knifemaking. What started as a garage hobby eventually became a skilled craft capable of supporting his family.
Kyle has spent years researching, practicing, and refining his craft while working with accomplished bladesmiths. His designs are made with the end user in mind, from unique pieces that challenge his skills to rugged work knives intended for demanding use. As an avid outdoorsman, Kyle understands the needs of hunters and anglers. He earned his ABS Journeyman Smith rating at the 2015 Blade Show in Atlanta and appeared on Forged in Fire in 2016. His work has also been featured in Blade Magazine, Knife Magazine, and other publications.
For hunters, anglers, and everyday carriers looking for a lightweight fixed blade, the Mountain Trout delivers a versatile combination of corrosion-resistant AEB-L steel, feathered black G-10, and American-made craftsmanship.
