The Gahagan Customs Wolfhound is a lightweight, purpose-built skinning knife designed for hunters who demand control, precision, and dependable cutting performance in the field. Its dedicated skinning design features a pronounced curved belly that makes it well suited for field dressing wild game, while the narrow tip helps with precise cuts when working around detailed areas. Versatile enough for other outdoor tasks, the Wolfhound brings practical performance to hunting camp, the backcountry, and beyond.
The 4.375-inch blade is made from 80CRV2 steel and measures .125 inches thick. Known for its toughness and dependable cutting performance, 80CRV2 gives the Wolfhound a rugged blade that’s well suited for demanding field use. The curved belly provides an efficient cutting profile for skinning, while the narrower tip gives you the control needed for more precise work. Whether you’re processing game or handling general outdoor cutting chores, the Wolfhound offers a capable edge in a compact package.
A textured G-10 handle provides a secure grip while keeping the knife lightweight and easy to carry. This version features an OD green G-10 handle accented by a contrasting orange liner, giving the knife a rugged outdoor appearance with a distinctive flash of color. At 5.54 ounces, the Wolfhound remains light enough for comfortable field carry without sacrificing the solid feel you want from a dedicated fixed blade.
The Wolfhound comes with a black retention sheath that keeps the knife protected and ready when it’s needed. With an 8.375-inch overall length, the knife maintains a useful balance between cutting capability and portability. Made in the USA and designed by Kyle Gahagan, it reflects the hands-on craftsmanship and practical experience behind Gahagan Customs.
Kyle Gahagan’s passion for knifemaking began when he was just 10 years old while visiting his grandparents in Walterboro, South Carolina. After joining the Army at age 20, Kyle served with the 1st Ranger Battalion and completed two tours in Afghanistan and two in Iraq. Following his military service, Kyle and his wife, Dana, moved to North Carolina, where he renewed his passion for knifemaking and eventually transformed his garage hobby into a family-sustaining craft.
Years of research, practice, and collaboration with accomplished bladesmiths helped Kyle develop his own distinctive approach to knife design. As an avid outdoorsman, he understands the importance of creating knives that serve a purpose and can withstand demanding use. Kyle earned his ABS Journeyman Smith rating at the 2015 Blade Show in Atlanta and appeared on Forged in Fire in 2016. His work has also been featured in Blade Magazine, Knife Magazine, and other publications.
For hunters looking for a lightweight, dedicated skinning knife, the Wolfhound delivers a field-ready combination of curved-blade performance, rugged 80CRV2 steel, textured G-10, and USA-made craftsmanship.
