The Gahagan Customs Wolfhound is a lightweight, dedicated skinning knife built for hunters who need precision, control, and dependable performance in the field. Designed by Kyle Gahagan and made in the USA, this compact fixed blade combines a purpose-driven profile with rugged materials, making it an excellent choice for field dressing wild game and handling a wide range of outdoor tasks.
The 4 3/8-inch 80CRV2 steel blade measures 1/8-inch thick and features a pronounced curved belly that makes it especially effective for skinning and controlled field-dressing cuts. The curved edge helps maintain smooth contact while working through hide and tissue, while the narrow tip provides the precision needed for detailed cuts around joints and other tight areas. 80CRV2 is valued for its toughness, edge retention, and ability to withstand hard use, giving the Wolfhound the durability needed for demanding outdoor work.
The handle is constructed from textured G10 with an orange liner and a tan finish, creating a distinctive appearance while providing a secure grip. The textured surface helps maintain control during extended use, while G10 offers excellent durability and resistance to moisture and changing outdoor conditions. The orange liner adds a bold visual accent without taking away from the practical, work-focused design.
Measuring 8 3/8 inches overall and weighing only 5.54 ounces, the Wolfhound is easy to carry without feeling underbuilt. Its compact dimensions make it especially well suited for hunting packs, belt carry, and other situations where space and weight matter. A black retention sheath is included to provide secure storage and convenient carry in the field.
Kyle Gahagan's approach to knifemaking is grounded in experience, craftsmanship, and real-world use. His interest in blades began at an early age while visiting his grandparents in South Carolina and eventually developed from a garage hobby into a professional knifemaking career. After serving with the 1st Ranger Battalion and completing two tours in Afghanistan and two in Iraq, Kyle returned to his passion for creating knives designed with the end user in mind.
Gahagan earned his ABS Journeyman Smith rating at the 2015 Blade Show in Atlanta and appeared on Forged in Fire in 2016. His work has also been featured in Blade Magazine, Knife Magazine, and other publications. As an avid outdoorsman and bladesmith, Kyle continues to build rugged, functional knives that are made to be used.
With its purpose-built skinning profile, tough 80CRV2 blade, textured G10 handle, and lightweight American-made construction, the Wolfhound is ready for the hunt and whatever work follows.
