The Gransfors Bruk 490-2 Double Bit Axe Natural Hickory 35in is more than a tool—it’s a symbol of craftsmanship, tradition, and power forged into a single, purposeful design. Imagine the crisp scent of pine and the rhythmic swing of steel meeting wood with precision. This double-bit axe embodies the heritage of professional lumberjacks who relied on their tools not just for work, but for their livelihood. Hand-forged in Sweden by master smiths, each axe bears the maker’s initials as a mark of authenticity and pride.
The Gransfors Bruk Double Bit Working Axe continues a legacy born in the logging camps of North America, where dual edges meant versatility and endurance. One edge was sharpened fine for clean felling, while the other was kept more robust for limbing and rougher cuts. That same timeless design now serves modern woodworkers, homesteaders, and axe-throwing competitors who demand precision, balance, and reliability. Every swing feels deliberate and confident, balanced perfectly along its 35-inch American hickory handle—smooth, straight-grained, and finished naturally with linseed oil and beeswax.
This axe isn’t made for display, though it’s beautiful enough for it. It’s made for those who value performance, heritage, and tools built to last generations. Whether you’re splitting wood for winter, clearing a trail, or testing your accuracy in competition, the 490-2 delivers impeccable balance and striking power. Its dual six-inch cutting edges make it both a working tool and a piece of fine craftsmanship designed to meet the highest standards of functionality and form.
Specifications are as practical as they are impressive: an overall length of 35 inches, a total weight of approximately 4.6 to 5.3 pounds, and a 3-pound head hand-forged from high-carbon Swedish steel. The axe comes complete with two custom vegetable-tanned leather sheaths for blade protection and Gransfors Bruk’s renowned “The Axe Book,” a guide to care and use. Each axe is backed by a 20-year guarantee on the head, a testament to the confidence Gransfors Bruk has in its quality and longevity.
