Originally created for Helle's 2012 anniversary, the Sigmund carries an unusual legacy: the blade design traces back to Sigmund Helle in the 1930s, while the handle was developed by his son, Torodd Helle, in 2012. The result is a knife that represents 80 years of family tradition while remaining practical enough for everyday outdoor use.
At the heart of the Sigmund is a 4.21-inch triple laminated Helle stainless steel blade. The blade arrives exceptionally sharp right out of the box and offers the versatility expected from a classic all-purpose knife. With a 0.12-inch thickness and stick tang construction, it balances cutting precision with dependable strength for camp chores, carving, food preparation, and general outdoor tasks.
The handle is where the Sigmund truly sets itself apart. Crafted from a combination of beech, dark oak, and stacked leather, the layered construction gives every knife a distinctive appearance and a character that feels genuinely handcrafted. The medium-sized handle is hand sanded to a smooth satin finish and provides enough grip for medium to large hands. A subtle fingerboard helps guide your hand into a secure position, particularly when choking up closer to the blade for more controlled cutting.
At 8.42 inches overall, the Sigmund maintains a compact profile without sacrificing usable grip or cutting length. Its 3.32-ounce weight makes it comfortable to carry while still feeling substantial in the hand.
