Battle Horse Knives is a family-owned company known for its handcrafted fixed-blade knives, designed to meet the demands of outdoor enthusiasts, bushcrafters, hunters, and survivalists. Rooted in a legacy of quality craftsmanship and practical designs, the company has built a strong reputation for reliability and durability.

Before the creation of Battle Horse Knives, Dan Coppins was one of the co-founders of Blind Horse Knives, a company that quickly gained recognition for its rugged, functional blades. Blind Horse Knives was known for producing tools that catered to the outdoor and bushcraft communities, with designs that emphasized usability and reliability.

In 2013, Blind Horse Knives' co-founders decided to part ways, resulting in the formation of two independent ventures: L.T. Wright Handcrafted Knives, led by L.T. Wright, and Battle Horse Knives. Dan Coppins, joined by his daughter Alicia McQuain, founded Battle Horse Knives to continue their commitment to quality craftsmanship and practical knife design. This new chapter allowed the Coppins family to create a brand uniquely aligned with their vision and values.

Battle Horse Knives focuses on designing knives that are rugged, reliable, and versatile. Their designs are informed by years of experience in the field and feedback from outdoorsmen, hunters, and bushcrafters. The knives are often constructed using high-carbon steels like 01 tool steel, which provides excellent edge retention and toughness. Ergonomics and usability are central to their designs, ensuring that their knives are comfortable for extended use in demanding conditions.

Every Battle Horse Knife is handcrafted in their Ohio workshop. The production process emphasizes attention to detail, from steel selection to the final sharpening. Handles are often made from durable materials like micarta, G10, and stabilized wood, ensuring comfort and resistance to environmental challenges. The company also offers custom options, allowing customers to personalize their knives to fit their specific needs and preferences.

Today, Battle Horse Knives is run by John and Alicia McQuain. Dan Coppins and his wife Judy have retired from the knife-making industry, entrusting the company to the capable hands of the next generation. John and Alicia continue to uphold the company's commitment to quality and innovation, ensuring that Battle Horse Knives remains a respected name in the knife-making community.

Battle Horse Knives maintains a close relationship with its customer base, often participating in outdoor and knife-related events. They host the Battle Horse Knives Camp Out, fostering a community of enthusiasts who share a passion for handcrafted blades and outdoor skills.

The company’s dedication to quality and function has earned it a loyal following. Outdoor adventurers, bushcraft instructors, and survivalists often praise Battle Horse Knives for their performance, durability, and looks. The brand has become known for its reliability and has played a significant role in popularizing handcrafted knives tailored for outdoor use.
