Founded in 2021, Jack Wolf Knives has quickly established itself as a leading brand in the world of modernized traditional slip joints. With over 15 modernized slip joints, four bolster lock knives, and a newly released EDC fixed blade to its name, the company has breathed new life into the traditional knife market. At the heart of this brand is Benjamin Belkin, a man whose innovative vision and dedication to craftsmanship have propelled Jack Wolf Knives to the forefront of the knife industry.

Ben Belkin’s journey into the world of knife-making began with a deep appreciation for traditional slip joints, instilled in him by his grandfather, Jack Wolf, who always carried one in his pocket. As a young boy, Ben was captivated by his grandfather’s knives, sparking a passion that would lead him to become an avid knife collector, or as he describes himself, a "true knife nut." His first slip joint marked the beginning of a lifelong collection. It wasn't long before Ben decided to merge his love for knives, computer-aided design (CAD), knife collecting, and 80s and 90s culture into a business, giving birth to Jack Wolf Knives.

The company’s first major releases were its modernized slip joints, each crafted with premium materials and featuring precision engineering. Ben’s attention to detail was evident from the start. His first major success was the Laid-Back Jack, a slip joint that featured classic lines and modern materials like Kirinite and Rosewood. However, producing these knives came with challenges. Early batches of materials such as Kirinite presented unforeseen finishing and fitting issues. Ben’s solution was methodical—working closely with material manufacturers, testing different finishing techniques, and refining the process to ensure that every knife met his exacting standards.

Each knife is drawn by Ben in AutoCAD at his shop in Scottsdale, Arizona, before being sent to a factory in China for production. The parts are cut on CNC machines, hand-ground, and hand-fitted, combining custom knife quality with production efficiency. While the knives are currently made overseas to meet Ben’s strict specifications, the company is working toward offering USA-made products in the future.

The development process for each knife at Jack Wolf is meticulous, and Ben’s commitment to quality is evident in every detail. Whether it’s the finish of the blade or the fit of the handle materials, Ben ensures that each component is tested rigorously. He pays close attention to the balance between aesthetics and functionality, and his approach has earned Jack Wolf Knives a reputation for producing some of the finest modern slip joints on the market.

One of the defining aspects of Jack Wolf Knives is its unique ability to combine traditional knife patterns with modern touches. The Laid-Back Jack featured not only new materials but also a hand-rubbed satin finish that gave the knife an artisanal quality. This blend of old-world techniques with new-world aesthetics is part of what makes Jack Wolf Knives stand out. The introduction of DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coatings on newer models, for instance, showcased Ben’s focus on durability without sacrificing beauty.

In addition to slip joints, Jack Wolf Knives expanded its offerings to include bolster lock folders. One of the brand’s standout releases in this category is the Gunslinger Jack, a bolster lock knife that maintained the brand’s commitment to traditional aesthetics while offering the security of a locking mechanism. For Ben, designing locking knives was a new challenge, but one he embraced with enthusiasm. The Gunslinger Jack features middle finger flick deployment, lock bar inserts, and overtravel stops, all while maintaining the elegant design language of Jack Wolf’s slip joints.

The most recent addition to the Jack Wolf lineup is the brand's first EDC fixed blade, the Midnight, showcasing Ben's ability to diversify his offerings while maintaining the brand’s core values. This release marks another milestone in the company’s journey as it continues to expand into different segments of the knife market.

Jack Wolf Knives’ success is not just due to the quality of its products but also to Ben’s engagement with the knife community. He listens to feedback, incorporates it into his designs, and is transparent about the challenges and successes the company faces. His willingness to adapt and his relentless pursuit of perfection are what set Jack Wolf Knives apart in an increasingly competitive market.

As Jack Wolf Knives continues to grow, Ben’s vision for the future is clear. He aims to continue expanding the brand’s catalog, introducing more locking knives, and fixed blades, and exploring different price points to make his knives accessible to a broader audience. With each new release, Jack Wolf Knives further cements its place as a leading brand in both the modern and traditional knife communities, offering collectors a blend of timeless designs with cutting-edge craftsmanship.
