History of Microtech

The story of Microtech begins in 1993, not in a corporate office, but in the unassuming surroundings of an apartment in Vero Beach, Florida. It was here that Anthony and Susan Marfione, driven by a shared passion for knifemaking, laid the foundation for what would become a leading name in the industry. Anthony, a skilled craftsman with a background in tool and die making, meticulously crafted the very first knife prototypes in their apartment. Their dedication soon outgrew the confines of their living space, prompting them to move operations to a storage shed, marking the first step towards a dedicated production facility.

With a clear vision and a commitment to quality, Microtech officially came into existence in 1994. This pivotal year also saw the birth of the U.D.T., Microtech’s first official knife. The U.D.T., named after the elite Underwater Demolition Teams, was specifically designed for underwater use, a testament to Microtech's focus on functionality and innovation.

The following year, in 1995, Microtech unveiled another iconic creation: the H.A.L.O. (High Altitude Low Opening). This groundbreaking automatic knife, known for its fast and reliable deployment mechanism, quickly garnered acclaim within the knife community. Its cover feature in Fighting Knives Magazine in September 1995 further solidified Microtech's position as a rising star in the industry.

Microtech's early success paved the way for rapid growth. The company expanded its operations, moving from the storage shed to larger facilities to accommodate the increasing demand for its innovative knives. Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, Microtech continued to push the boundaries of design and functionality, introducing a variety of new models, including the iconic Ultratech and SOCOM series. Their dedication to quality earned them recognition beyond the knife enthusiast community, as they received their first award, Blade Magazine's "Manufacturing Quality" award in 1998.
