Suprlativ Knives was founded by Enrique Peña, Jared Oeser, and Javi Garcia, three well-respected names in the custom knife community. Each had already developed a distinct reputation before deciding to work together. Rather than forming a loose collaboration or simply sharing branding, they built Suprlativ as a fully integrated partnership where all decisions and designs are made collectively. The goal from the beginning was to create high-end knives that combine their individual strengths while maintaining tight control over quality and finish.

The company’s working structure is based on shared effort. All three makers are involved in the design and prototyping process. No single model belongs to one individual, and every design reflects input from all sides. Their approach prioritizes clean lines, mechanical integrity, and fine-tuned execution. They do not assign names to models based on the individual who initiated the idea. Instead, everything released under the Suprlativ name is treated as a product of the group.

To bring their designs to life with consistency and precision, they partnered with Reate Knives, a Chinese manufacturer known for its tight tolerances and quality control. Reate handles the machining and assembly, but Peña, Oeser, and Garcia themselves do the final inspection and tuning. This includes adjusting the detent, action, lock engagement, and overall feel. Every knife is personally examined before it is shipped out.

The first model released was the Canibl, which introduced a locking mechanism called the Phantom Lock. Designed by Garcia, the Phantom Lock is integrated into the spine of the knife and concealed within the backspacer. It allows for a secure lock without any visible frame or liner lock components. The Canibl was well received for both its mechanical novelty and its clean, modern look. It established Suprlativ’s identity as a brand focused on precision and understated innovation.

Next came the Cruzador, a slipjoint folder that reflects the team’s shared interest in traditional designs interpreted through modern materials. The Cruzador uses CPM-M4 blade steel and features a titanium frame with integrated bolsters. Handle scale options include Micarta and carbon fiber. The action is carefully tuned to offer a satisfying walk and talk, something that has become increasingly rare in contemporary slipjoints. The Cruzador demonstrated Suprlativ’s ability to balance modern construction with traditional styling and tactile feel.

In more recent releases, the company has begun incorporating CPM-MagnaCut, a steel that has quickly become popular for its combination of edge retention, toughness, and stainless properties. This decision fits with Suprlativ’s careful material choices. The team does not chase fads or experiment for novelty’s sake. When a new material or process proves to be functionally better, they evaluate it and decide whether it belongs in their work.

Though relatively new as a brand, Suprlativ has already established a strong presence among knife collectors and enthusiasts. The quality of their work reflects the decades of experience each founder brings to the table. The knives they produce are not mass-market, but they are accessible in a way that many full custom knives are not. They aim to occupy the space between fully custom knives and large-scale production, combining hand-finished detail with repeatable precision.

Suprlativ’s success is built on cooperation, attention to detail, and a clear understanding of what makes a knife feel refined. Their work reflects a shared respect for function, mechanics, and craftsmanship. Rather than promoting themselves individually, they focus on what they can accomplish together. That philosophy continues to guide their designs and their approach to the knife world as they move forward.
