The Knight Forge Studio Brut de Forge Bowie is a bold fixed blade that showcases traditional Bowie styling, rugged materials, and the craftsmanship of Jason Knight. Measuring 18.5 inches overall with an impressive 12.75-inch blade, this knife commands attention with its substantial proportions and distinctive character. Crafted from 80CrV2 carbon steel and paired with curly maple scales, the Brut de Forge Bowie combines a rugged appearance with the natural beauty of figured wood, making it an appealing choice for collectors who appreciate traditional blades and custom knifemaking.
The 80CrV2 steel blade is built around a classic Bowie-inspired design that emphasizes a long, commanding profile. Valued for its toughness and ability to handle demanding cutting applications, 80CrV2 carbon steel is a popular choice among makers who prioritize durability and practical performance. The blade's substantial length contributes to its unmistakable presence, while the Brut de Forge styling celebrates the character and artistry associated with traditional forging techniques. As with other carbon steel blades, proper maintenance is important. Cleaning and thoroughly drying the blade after handling, along with applying a light coat of protective oil when needed, will help guard against corrosion and preserve its condition.
Curly maple scales give the knife a distinctive natural finish, with attractive figuring that adds depth and visual interest to the handle. The warm wood grain contrasts with the blade's rugged character, creating a balanced look that feels both traditional and refined. This combination of 80CrV2 steel and figured maple gives the Brut de Forge Bowie a timeless aesthetic that stands out in a collection of handcrafted fixed blades. Its impressive size and classic profile also make it a striking display piece for enthusiasts of traditional Bowie knives and bladesmithing.
A zippered black pouch is included for convenient storage and transport, helping protect the knife when it's not on display or in use.
The craftsmanship behind this knife reflects Jason Knight's lifelong dedication to bladesmithing. Growing up in the hinterlands of Charleston, South Carolina, Knight developed an early passion for knives through adventure stories his father read to him, costumes his mother made, and backyard explorations with old knives and machetes. In 2001, he attended the Bill Moran School of Bladesmithing in Old Washington, Arkansas, where he trained under Master Bladesmith Jay Hendrickson. In 2007, Knight earned his American Bladesmith Society Mastersmith rating and received the B.R. Hughes Award for the best knife by a Mastersmith candidate. His decades of experience and recognizable style have helped establish his reputation in the knifemaking community.
With its substantial Bowie profile, durable 80CrV2 steel blade, and figured curly maple scales, the Knight Forge Studio Brut de Forge Bowie delivers a distinctive blend of traditional design and skilled craftsmanship.
