The Lishen Knives Northern Scalpel is a compact, precision-driven fixed blade built in Bristol, Tennessee by a small handmade shop that does everything in-house. Lishen Knives focuses on function first, but never at the expense of clean design or visual character. The result is a tool that feels purposeful in the hand, refined in its execution, and honest in its construction.
At the center of the Northern Scalpel is a 1.9-inch drop point blade made from AEB-L stainless steel. This steel is widely respected for its fine grain structure, excellent toughness, and ease of sharpening, making it especially well-suited for a compact precision blade. The .09-inch blade thickness keeps it slim and controlled, allowing for fine, deliberate cutting work without feeling fragile. The drop point profile adds versatility, giving a strong, stable tip and a smooth edge that handles detail tasks with confidence and control.
The full tang construction runs through the entire knife, providing strength and balance in a streamlined 6.25-inch overall package. It carries light but feels solid, designed to be an everyday companion for users who value precision over bulk. Ambidextrous ergonomics make it equally usable in either hand, reinforcing its role as a straightforward, no-nonsense tool.
The handle is crafted from blue canvas micarta, giving the knife a bold but functional aesthetic. Micarta is known for its durability, moisture resistance, and dependable grip, even in demanding conditions. The canvas texture adds tactile control, while the deep blue tone brings a distinctive visual edge without becoming flashy or overdesigned. Aluminum pins add a clean, modern contrast, locking in the handle scales while contributing to the knife’s overall structural integrity and subtle visual detail.
A leather belt clip sheath completes the setup, offering secure, low-profile carry that’s easy to access and comfortable for everyday use. It keeps the knife close without unnecessary bulk, aligning perfectly with the Northern Scalpel’s compact intent.
Made in the USA, this knife reflects the hands-on approach of a small Bristol shop that values doing things right. It’s a precision fixed blade built for users who want reliability in a small footprint, with materials and craftsmanship that stand up to real use.
