The Lishen Knives Northern Scalpel is a compact, precision-built fixed blade that reflects the hands-on craftsmanship coming out of Bristol, Tennessee. Built by Lishen Knives entirely in-house, it carries the kind of focused design philosophy that doesn’t chase excess—just clean function, dependable materials, and a refined aesthetic that still feels honest and grounded.
At the core of the Northern Scalpel is a 1.9-inch drop point blade crafted from AEB-L stainless steel. This steel is known for its exceptional edge stability, fine grain structure, and ease of sharpening, making it a strong performer in a compact format where precision matters most. The .09-inch blade thickness keeps the profile slim and controlled, giving it scalpel-like accuracy without sacrificing durability. The drop point shape adds versatility, offering a strong, reliable tip and a smooth cutting edge that handles detailed work with confidence.
Despite its compact blade, the knife carries a full tang construction, extending strength and balance throughout the 6.25-inch overall length. It feels deliberate in hand, with just enough presence to inspire control while staying light and easy to carry. Ambidextrous design ensures it’s equally comfortable in either hand, reinforcing its role as a straightforward, functional tool rather than a specialized or restrictive design.
The handle is where the Northern Scalpel truly stands apart. Crafted from desert ironwood, it brings a dense, richly grained natural material that’s known for its durability and striking appearance. Each handle has its own organic character, with warm tones and natural patterning that make every piece subtly unique. Mosaic pins add a refined visual accent, elevating the knife without compromising its rugged intent. It’s a balance of craftsmanship and understated detail that fits perfectly with Lishen Knives’ approach.
A leather belt clip sheath rounds out the package, offering secure, low-profile carry with easy accessibility. It’s built for practical use, keeping the knife ready without unnecessary bulk or complication.
Made in the USA in Bristol, Tennessee, the Northern Scalpel reflects the kind of small-shop dedication that prioritizes doing things right over doing things fast. It’s a compact fixed blade built for precision tasks, everyday carry, and users who appreciate thoughtful craftsmanship in a minimal footprint.
