The Microtech UTX-85 Gen IV OTF Auto S/E Apocalyptic Standard Purple delivers the premium performance, precision engineering, and dependable functionality Microtech's known for in a compact, everyday-carry design. Measuring 85 percent of the size of the original Ultratech, this out-the-front automatic knife offers an excellent balance of portability, comfortable handling, and cutting capability. Its distinctive purple handle and Apocalyptic blade finish give it a bold appearance that stands out in any collection while maintaining the practical design expected from a high-performance automatic knife.
At the heart of the UTX-85 Gen IV is a 3.10-inch blade crafted from Böhler M390MK stainless steel. Known for its excellent edge retention, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, M390MK is a premium blade steel suited for users who value lasting performance and dependable cutting ability. The Apocalyptic finish adds a weathered, battle-worn aesthetic that complements the knife's functional design. Its single-edge configuration provides a versatile cutting profile for everyday tasks, from opening packages to handling routine cutting chores.
The UTX-85 Gen IV's out-the-front mechanism allows the blade to deploy and retract through a thumb-operated slider, offering convenient one-handed operation. This double-action functionality makes the knife easy to operate without requiring a separate closing motion. Microtech's precision engineering supports smooth, controlled action, while the thoughtfully designed mechanism helps deliver the responsive performance expected from a premium OTF automatic knife.
The handle is constructed from durable 6061-T6 aluminum, providing a strong yet lightweight foundation for daily carry. Its purple finish adds a vibrant touch without sacrificing the knife's professional appearance. Carefully contoured ergonomics help provide a comfortable, secure grip despite the UTX-85's reduced dimensions. Proprietary screws contribute to the knife's distinctive construction, while the integrated glass breaker adds a practical emergency feature.
Measuring 7.65 inches overall and weighing just 3.1 ounces, the UTX-85 Gen IV fits comfortably into an everyday-carry rotation without adding unnecessary bulk. Its compact proportions make it convenient to carry, while its premium materials and capable blade keep it well suited for regular use. Whether you're a dedicated Microtech enthusiast, an automatic-knife collector, or someone looking for a high-quality EDC option, this model combines refined engineering with distinctive styling.
