At the heart of the Autonomy is a 3.7-inch H-2 steel blade with a fully serrated edge. H-2 is an exceptionally corrosion-resistant steel specifically suited to demanding environments where exposure to saltwater and moisture is a constant concern. The hollow-ground blade delivers an aggressive cutting profile, while the serrated SpyderEdge excels at slicing through tough materials such as rope, webbing, and other fibrous materials. With a 0.114-inch blade thickness, it balances cutting performance with the rugged construction expected from a professional-grade automatic knife.
A powerful coil spring drives the blade open with the push of the oversized firing button, giving the Autonomy its fast, decisive automatic deployment. Spyderco engineered the spring system around end-user maintenance, placing the corrosion-resistant coil spring inside a removable module. Using Spyderco’s spring replacement kit, the module can be removed without completely disassembling the knife, making maintenance considerably more straightforward.
The handle is built for confident control, featuring durable orange G-10 scales with peel-ply texturing, full stainless steel liners, and an open-backed construction that helps reduce unnecessary weight while providing excellent grip. Finger grooves further enhance handling, especially when working in wet conditions. The oversized firing button is integrated into the robust handle design, while the button lock includes a sliding safety to help prevent unintended activation during carry.
At 8.62 inches overall and 5.4 ounces, the Autonomy offers substantial cutting capability without becoming unnecessarily cumbersome.
