The Weatherby Select Plus .257 Weatherby Magnum 115-grain Nosler Ballistic Tip Brass 20-round box is an ultra-high-velocity centerfire rifle cartridge engineered specifically for long-range whitetail deer, pronghorn, and medium game hunting where razor-flat trajectories and rapid terminal expansion are required. A primary friction point when shooting ultra-magnum cartridges at extreme speeds is bullet breakup or premature fragmentation upon impact, which limits deep penetration into vital organ zones. Weatherby resolves these high-velocity performance constraints by pairing the legendary .257 Weatherby Magnum casing with Nosler's tapered-jacket Ballistic Tip projectile, ensuring aerodynamic flight and controlled terminal upset downrange.
The primary technical advantage centers on the combination of a polycarbonate tip, boat-tail base, and progressively thickened copper jacket. Featuring a 0.453 G1 ballistic coefficient, the 115-grain Nosler Ballistic Tip resists atmospheric drag and crosswind deflection to preserve kinetic energy over extended flight paths. Upon impact, the polycarbonate tip acts as a wedge to initiate rapid, wide-diameter expansion, while the heavy solid-base jacket design prevents over-expansion, preserving structural mass to drive deep into vital tissue.
Launching its 115-grain projectile at a blistering 3,400 FPS, this Weatherby Select Plus load minimizes holdover and delivers crushing hydrostatic shock to medium game at extended distances. Assembled using premium precision-drawn Norma brass cases, temperature-stable propellants, and non-corrosive Boxer primers, it produces consistent chamber pressure, uniform ignition, and smooth extraction in magnum bolt-action hunting rifles. It is an industry-standard choice for open-country, beanfield, and mountain hunting scenarios.
Key Benefits
- Nosler Ballistic Tip Projectile: Polycarbonate tip initiates immediate, wide-diameter expansion while preserving a drag-reducing ogive.
- Tapered Jacket & Solid Base: Thickened jacket base prevents high-velocity breakup and controls expansion depth on medium game.
- 3,400 FPS Ultra-High Velocity: Generates laser-flat trajectories and immense kinetic energy transfer for long-range hunting.
- Premium Reloadable Norma Brass: High-capacity magnum casing ensures uniform neck tension, smooth feeding, and long reloadable life.
