The Winchester Super-X Game & Target .22 Long Rifle 40-grain Power-Point Copper-Plated Hollow Point (CPHP) 100-round box is a high-velocity rimfire cartridge engineered specifically for small game hunting, target practice, and high-volume field shooting. A common friction point with .22 LR hollow-point ammunition—particularly in semi-automatic rifles and handguns—is balancing rapid terminal expansion with reliable feeding, as soft or wide hollow-point tips frequently snag on chamber feed ramps. Winchester resolves this rimfire performance challenge by applying a slick copper plating over a uniquely profiled 40-grain Power-Point hollow-point bullet, ensuring smooth feed-ramp cycling while guaranteeing rapid terminal expansion on impact.
The primary technical advantage centers on the specialized nose cavity and copper wash treatment of the 40-grain projectile. Featuring an expanded meplat paired with engineered jacket mouth notches, the Power-Point CPHP initiates rapid, uniform mushrooming upon impact without fragmenting prematurely. The thin copper plating acts as a barrier to eliminate direct lead-to-bore contact, drastically reducing lead deposition, keeping action components clean, and maintaining downrange accuracy during extended shooting sessions.
Propelled at a high-velocity 1,280 FPS, this Super-X load supplies the slide and bolt kinetic energy needed to cycle stiff semi-automatic action springs reliably. Charged with clean-burning propellants and non-corrosive rimfire priming, it provides instant ignition, stable flight trajectories, and tight shot groupings across bolt-action and semi-automatic platforms alike. It is a premier choice for controlling small game and agricultural pests—such as squirrels, rabbits, and groundhogs—as well as target marksmanship.
