SHOP CASE KNIVESWhen you're miles from the trailhead and every ounce counts, the Council Tool Wood-Craft Pack Axe is the tool that earns its place in your pack. Designed and built in the USA, this axe is purpose-built for serious woodsmen, bushcrafters, and outdoorsmen who need a compact, high-performance tool that doesn’t compromise on durability or cutting power. At just 2.75 pounds overall, with a 2-pound forged head and a 24-inch curved hickory handle, the balance of weight, power, and portability is right where you want it. The axe head is crafted from 5160 alloy steel—known for its toughness, impact resistance, and ability to hold a razor-sharp edge even after heavy use. Council Tool forges and heat-treats the head to a hardness range of Rc 52–56, giving it the bite and resilience needed for everything from campfire prep to carving shelter poles. Phantom bevels cut into the cheeks reduce friction and sticking, helping the blade bite deeper and release cleaner on every swing. The 24-inch handle is made from Grade A American hickory, carefully kiln-dried to prevent warping and shrinkage. It offers the ideal length for packability while providing plenty of leverage for controlled chopping and splitting. The ergonomic curve improves swing accuracy and comfort, reducing fatigue during extended use. Whether you're processing kindling or shaping logs for a bushcraft shelter, this axe is tuned for versatility.
Council Tool completes the package with a premium welted leather mask sheath that secures with a buckle, protecting the cutting edge during transport and ensuring safety around camp. Every detail of this axe speaks to quality, from the head’s precise fit to the hand-honed edge and oil-finished handle. It’s part of the Wood-Craft line, a series that reflects a heritage of American craftsmanship and tools built to last generations. Check out our large selection of Council Tool items at SMKW!
