The Work Tuff Gear Borneo Fixed Blade is a modern field knife inspired by the traditional Southeast Asian parang, a proven cutting tool known for its effectiveness in demanding jungle environments. Designed by Vic Lin, the Borneo combines the reach and chopping efficiency of the parang with modern full-tang construction, premium steel, and rugged materials. Whether you're clearing brush, processing wood, working around camp, or heading into the backcountry, this substantial fixed blade is built to handle serious outdoor tasks.
Measuring 19.1 inches overall, the Borneo features a substantial 12.5-inch blade and an equally long 12.5-inch cutting edge. Its 0.198-inch blade thickness provides a strong, capable platform while keeping the knife balanced enough for controlled work. The full-tang construction extends through the handle, providing the strength and reliability needed for demanding chopping and cutting applications.
The blade is crafted from Bohler K329 steel with a hardness of 58-60 HRC. This robust blade steel is paired with a saber grind and mirror-polished convex cutting edge, creating a durable geometry with an exceptionally smooth cutting surface. The parang blade shape provides excellent reach and leverage, making the Borneo particularly well suited for clearing vegetation, processing wood, and other demanding outdoor chores.
A Copper Washed finish gives the blade a rugged, weathered appearance that perfectly complements the Borneo's field-ready character. The finishing process also makes every knife genuinely unique. Work Tuff Gear intentionally leaves the flat surfaces of each blade unground to preserve their rugged, forged character. As a result, individual blades may feature small dings or subtle steel rolling marks. These are natural characteristics of the material and finishing process, not defects, and they give each Borneo its own distinctive personality.
The black Gator G-10 grip provides a durable, rugged handle material that complements the warm tones of the Copper Washed blade. Its substantial construction and full-tang foundation give the knife a solid, confident feel in hand. At 30.7 ounces, the Borneo has the heft you'd expect from a serious parang-inspired field knife without becoming unnecessarily cumbersome.
A black Kydex pancake-style sheath is included for secure storage and convenient carry. With the sheath, the total weight is 39 ounces, making the Borneo a substantial but highly capable addition to any outdoor kit.
Built for survival, bushcraft, expedition use, and demanding field work, the Work Tuff Gear Borneo delivers the reach, power, and durability of a traditional parang with modern knife construction. It's a rugged tool designed to go wherever the trail leads.
