From rust-resistant steels and high-traction handles to flexible fillet blades and folding options for easy carry, these knives are built for wet hands, messy jobs, and the rugged demands of serious fishing. Whether you are a weekend shore caster or a seasoned offshore guide, there is something here worth throwing in your tackle box.

Benchmade

Water Series

Benchmade Undercurrent

Benchmade’s Water Series launched in 2024 as a dedicated lineup for people who work and play in wet, corrosive environments. Every model in the series utilizes CPM-MagnaCut steel, selected for its exceptional balance of edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance, particularly in saltwater environments. Handles are shaped for control in wet hands, with aggressive texturing, oversized lanyard holes, and a consistent blue color scheme that’s easy to spot on the water. Whether you’re on a fishing boat or wading a riverbank, these knives are made to be used in the toughest conditions

The series kicked off with two folding knives: the Adira and the Mini Adira. Both feature drop point MagnaCut blades, Benchmade’s ambidextrous AXIS lock, and textured Grivory handles with anodized aluminum backspacers. These folders were designed for real-world use, featuring a secure grip, strong blade geometry, and easy one-handed operation. Benchmade then added a series of fixed blades. The Undercurrent is a full-size sheepsfoot with partial serrations, built for cutting rope or netting. The Intersect is a compact fixed blade available with a plain or partially serrated blade suited for finer tasks. Rounding out the collection is the Fishcrafter, offered in both 7-inch and 9-inch fillet versions.

Buck

Hookset Series

Buck 150 Hookset

The Hookset series is Buck’s more expansive fishing-focused lineup, offering both fixed and folding options in a wide range of sizes for freshwater and saltwater use. All Hookset blades are made from 5Cr15MoV stainless steel and feature either black or blue titanium coatings to boost corrosion resistance. The 144 and 145 are 6.0-inch fillet knives, built for freshwater and saltwater, with grippy orange for the freshwater version or blue handles for the saltwater version, molded sheaths, and enough flex for clean, accurate cuts. The 146 and 147 bump up to 9.0-inch blades for longer, sweeping strokes on larger catches, while the 148 provides a folding 6.0-inch option for anglers who prefer a more compact carry. At the top end of the lineup is the 149, a 10.0-inch saltwater breaker/fillet knife that offers strength for tougher jobs without sacrificing finesse, and the 150, a 6.0-inch saltwater cleaver with a bold tip and thick spine built to punch through bone and cartilage. All Hookset knives are built to get wet, stay grippy, and perform day after day on the water.

Silver Creek Series

Buck 223 Silver Creek

Buck’s Silver Creek series delivers dependable fillet knives for anglers who want durability, corrosion resistance, and solid performance at a fair price. All three knives in the line use titanium-coated 420J2 stainless steel blades designed to hold up in wet and salty conditions. The 220 is a folding fillet knife with a 6.5-inch flexible blade, lockback design, and textured rubberized grip that makes it easy to carry and handle, especially when space is limited. The fixed-blade 223 comes with a 6.5-inch blade and an overmolded blue-and-gray handle designed for a secure grip even when your hands are slick. The largest in the group, the 225, stretches out to a 9.6-inch blade, offering more reach and slicing power for larger fish. All three knives include sturdy guards, molded sheaths with drain holes, and Buck’s dependable build quality, making them great tools for the cleaning table or boat deck.

Gerber

Controller Series

Gerber Controller Folding Fillet

Gerber’s Controller series is built specifically for anglers who need tough, easy-to-clean tools that hold up in wet, gritty conditions. Each knife in the series uses mirror-polished 9Cr18MoV stainless steel with a SALTRx coating to fight off corrosion in both fresh and saltwater environments. The fixed-blade models come in 6, 8, and 10.0-inch lengths, giving anglers options whether they’re cleaning panfish or processing big saltwater catches. The blades are flexible enough for smooth filleting but still have enough stiffness to manage light bone and tougher cuts when needed. The handles feature HydroTread grip texture over a glass-filled nylon frame, with an ergonomic design and Gerber’s GuideFins thumb placement system to help maintain control even when your hands are soaked or slimy.

The Controller Folding Fillet Knife rounds out the series with a 6.0-inch blade with relief etching and the same SALTRx coating and grip design as its fixed-blade counterparts. It’s made for anglers who want a compact knife that can still handle serious fish prep. The folding model locks up solidly and stows easily into tackle bags or storage compartments. All Controller knives come with vented plastic sheaths that include built-in sharpeners and a variety of carry options, belt loops, pocket clips, or tether points, so they’re ready when and where you need them. Designed with input from fishing guides and tested in the field, the Controller series provides anglers with reliable performance without added complexity.

Kershaw

Clearwater Series

Kershaw Clearwater 9-inch Curved Fillet Knife

Kershaw’s fishing knife lineup covers a wide range of needs, from compact folding models to large, curved fillet blades. The Clearwater Fillet Knives come in 7.0-inch and 9.0-inch sizes, both made from corrosion-resistant 420J2 stainless steel with just the right amount of flex for clean, controlled cuts. The soft-grip co-polymer handles offer a comfortable hold in wet or slimy conditions, and both models come with durable ABS sheaths for safe storage. These knives are lightweight, easy to rinse clean, and designed for everything from panfish to larger freshwater and saltwater species

For tougher or more specialized work, Kershaw also offers 9.0-inch and 12.0-inch Curved Fillet Knives, which feature the same 420J2 steel but with sweeping, rounded blades for deeper cuts and more efficient slicing. The 7.0-inch Boning Knife gives you a stiffer blade for separating meat from bone, while the Narrow Fillet models, available in 7.5-inch and 9.5-inch lengths, are thinner and more precise, perfect for fine-detail work on slimmer fish. Rounding out the line is a 6.25-inch Folding Fillet Knife with a secure lock-back mechanism and rubberized handle, giving anglers a compact option that’s easy to carry and still performs when it’s time to clean the day’s catch.

Spyderco

Bow River

Spyderco Bow River

The Spyderco Bow River, designed by custom maker Phil Wilson, is a capable utility and fish-processing knife built for field use. It features a 4.36-inch trailing-point blade made from 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, ground thin for slicing and detailed work like filleting or skinning. Its full-tang construction is complemented by contoured black-and-gray G-10 handles that provide good control and comfort in-hand. The knife ships with a leather belt sheath and is well-suited to tasks around the dock, riverbank, or campsite. While it doesn’t have the ultra-corrosion-resistant properties of LC200N, the Bow River still delivers dependable performance with the clean-cutting geometry that Wilson’s designs and Spyderco are known for.

Waterway

Spyderco Waterway

Spyderco Waterway

The Spyderco Waterway was designed by professional kayak fisherman Lance Clinton to endure harsh saltwater environments, featuring a 4.44-inch drop-point blade made from LC200N, a nitrogen-enriched stainless alloy that delivers virtually rust-proof performance with edge retention comparable to VG‑10 or S30V. It’s fitted with full-tang G‑10 scales machined into a three-dimensional diamond pattern for exceptional grip, even when wet. At around 9.5 inches overall and barely over four ounces, this knife is light, aggressive, and built for real-world abuse. The molded Boltaron sheath and G‑Clip attachment make it ideal for fishing or diving setups.

Salt Series

Spyderco Caribbean
(Caribbean Bi-Directional Texture)

Spyderco’s Salt Series was introduced in the early 2000s to create knives that could withstand the harshest marine environments without fear of rust or corrosion. The original models, such as the Salt 1, Atlantic Salt, and Pacific Salt, used H-1 steel, a nitrogen-based alloy that eliminated carbon to make the blades virtually impervious to rust. This steel performed especially well in serrated form and became a trusted option for divers, sailors, and fishermen who needed tools that did not require constant maintenance. These early models featured FRN handles in bright, high-visibility colors with aggressive bi-directional texturing and lockback designs that prioritized durability and ease of use.

The next major leap came with the introduction of LC200N, a high-nitrogen stainless steel that delivered far better edge retention while still offering near-rustproof performance. Unlike H-1, which work-hardens through use, LC200N is conventionally heat-treated and better suited for plain-edged blades. It appeared in knives like the SpydieChef, Siren, Caribbean, Waterway, and Native 5 Salt, bringing better slicing performance to the Salt Series without compromising the rust resistance that defined the line. Later, Spyderco introduced H-2 steel as an evolution of H-1, focusing on greater toughness and impact resistance while retaining full corrosion immunity. Though less prominent than LC200N, H-2 followed the same nitrogen-based philosophy that started the Salt concept.

Most recently, Spyderco began incorporating CPM-MagnaCut into the Salt Series, debuting it in the Native 5 Lightweight Salt. MagnaCut offers an impressive mix of edge retention, toughness, and true stainless performance, making it ideal for both everyday carry and demanding saltwater use. On the design side, Spyderco expanded the line beyond its original FRN roots to include G-10 handles, which are both peel-ply textured and machined with the signature Caribbean Bi-Directional Texture pattern for excellent grip in wet conditions. With an evolving mix of blade steels, handle materials, and lock types, including back locks, compression locks, and liner locks, the Salt Series remains the standard for rustproof knives built for hard use in unforgiving environments.
