Few knife designs are as instantly recognizable as the karambit. With its hooked blade, curved handle, and signature finger ring, the pattern traces its roots to Southeast Asia, where its distinctive shape developed around close control and a secure grip. Modern manufacturers have taken that basic formula in many different directions, turning the karambit into everything from compact fixed blades to sophisticated folders with assisted, button-lock, and unconventional deployment systems. CRKT, LionSteel, CIVIVI, Kershaw, and Bastinelli each bring something different to the pattern, whether the priority is portability, premium materials, fast access, or a more traditional fixed-blade setup. In this article, we take a closer look at five karambits that show how much variety can fit within one of the knife world’s most distinctive designs.

CRKT

Provoke Grivory

The CRKT Provoke Grivory is one of the more unusual karambits out there, but its compact carry and distinctive deployment system make it a great choice for anyone who wants the traditional hooked profile in a modern folder. CRKT’s Kinematic mechanism keeps the blade tucked inside the handle until the upper crossbar is pressed with the thumb, sending the 2.47-inch 1.4116 stainless steel blade into its open position. The plain-edge blade measures 0.21 inches thick and has a black stonewash finish that helps disguise wear. A red Grivory handle keeps weight down while providing a tough, impact-resistant frame, and the large finger ring gives the Provoke the secure, locked-in feel people expect from a karambit. It measures 7.19 inches overall and weighs 4.7 ounces, with a low-profile pocket clip for easy everyday carry.

LionSteel

L.E. One (Stonewash)

The LionSteel L.E. One brings a premium, purpose-built feel to the karambit format, pairing the traditional curved profile and finger ring with fast deployment and a lightweight one-piece aluminum frame. Developed in collaboration with Emerson Design, it uses Ernest Emerson’s patented Wave feature to open the blade as the knife is drawn from a pocket, while LionSteel’s REF (REmovable Flipper system) gives users another opening option and can be taken off completely if preferred. The 3.23-inch plain-edge MagnaCut blade has a stonewashed finish and measures 0.16 inches thick, with a frame lock securing it during use. Its 5.04-inch SOLID handle is milled from a single piece of Ergal aluminum and is available in Earth Brown, OD Green, or Red. The L.E. One measures 8.27 inches overall and weighs 4.73 ounces, keeping it surprisingly manageable for a full-size folding karambit.

CIVIVI

Incisor II

The CIVIVI Incisor II is a compact folding karambit that keeps the hooked profile and oversized finger ring people expect from the pattern, while adding the smooth action and easy operation CIVIVI is known for. Its 2.02-inch Nitro-V blade has a black finish, flat grind, and 0.12-inch thickness, with a button lock holding it securely open. A caged ceramic ball-bearing pivot helps keep deployment smooth, while the 4.91-inch black aluminum handle provides a lightweight, solid frame and incorporates a matching aluminum finger ring for added control. The Incisor II measures 6.93 inches overall and weighs just 3.28 ounces, making it one of the more compact and pocket-friendly options on our list, and a reversible stainless steel pocket clip supports tip-up carry on either side.

Kershaw

Outlier (Blackwash)

The Kershaw Outlier is a strong choice for anyone who wants a karambit that feels familiar as an everyday folding knife. Its 2.6-inch hawkbill blade is made from 8Cr13MoV stainless steel and finished with Kershaw’s black-oxide BlackWash coating, which gives it a worn-in look while helping hide scratches from regular use. Kershaw’s assisted opening system works with either the flipper or thumb stud for quick deployment, and a liner lock secures the blade once open. The 5-inch glass-filled nylon handle is available in Black, OD Green, or Tan, with a steel finger ring and jimped backspacer that accommodate different hand positions and grip styles. At 7 inches overall and 3.6 ounces, the Outlier stays relatively compact for a folding karambit. A reversible deep-carry pocket clip supports left- or right-side tip-up carry.

Bastinelli

PiKa

The Bastinelli Creations PiKa is a great option for anyone who wants the control of a traditional karambit without the extra size or moving parts of a folder. Designed in collaboration with Doug Marcaida, it uses a compact fixed-blade layout with a pronounced hawkbill profile and oversized finger ring for a secure, controlled grip. The 1.63-inch blade is made from N690 stainless steel with a black PVD finish, while full-tang construction continues through the 3.5-inch black N690 stainless steel handle. At just 5.13 inches overall and 1.37 ounces, the PiKa is exceptionally lightweight and easy to carry without giving up the rigidity of a fixed blade. It comes with a black Kydex sheath fitted with a belt clip for secure carry. Manufactured by Fox Knives in Maniago, Italy.
