Blackjack Knives
Published: March 31st, 2025
Blackjack Knives was founded in 1987 by Mike Stewart and Ken Warner. Stewart, a knife enthusiast with a passion for traditional fixed-blade designs, envisioned a company that could produce high-quality knives reminiscent of classic fighting and hunting knives. The company quickly gained a reputation for producing durable, well-balanced knives inspired by vintage American and European designs, particularly those of Randall Made Knives.
During its early years, Blackjack Knives primarily focused on large, high-carbon steel bowie-style and combat knives. One of its most famous early models was the Blackjack Model 1-7, a knife that closely resembled the iconic Randall Model 1 Fighting Knife but at a more affordable price point. The company also produced a variety of hunting and survival knives, often featuring convex grinds and traditional leather handles, which provided an excellent grip and durability.

By the early 1990s, Blackjack Knives had expanded its production to include a wide range of fixed-blade and folding knives. The company outsourced some of its manufacturing to Seki, Japan, which allowed for high production quality while keeping costs competitive. During this period, Blackjack collaborated with notable designers such as Ken Warner and Fred James, further cementing its reputation for crafting well-made knives with historical influences.
- In 1997 Blackjack Knives ceased operations, and its assets were sold off.
- In 2001, Mike Stewart would found Bark River Knives in Escanaba, Michigan
- In the early 2000s, Blackjack Knives was revived under the ownership of Knifeware Inc.
Today, Blackjack Knives is primarily manufactured by Bark River Knives in Escanaba, Michigan. The brand remains dedicated to producing traditional yet high-performance knives, continuing to appeal to hunters, collectors, and outdoor enthusiasts. Blackjack’s most popular models include the Model 1-7, the Classic Blades series, and the Halo Attack, all of which pay homage to classic fighting and survival knives of the past.
The continued success of Blackjack Knives is a testament to its legacy of quality craftsmanship and traditional knife-making principles. With a devoted fan base and ongoing production of timeless designs, Blackjack Knives remains a respected name in the industry, bridging the gap between historical designs and modern performance.
